About the cottage
Our Cottage was designed and built to our specification on a plot of land we chose on the far north coast of Scotland in the county of Caithness. It is a ‘T’ shaped three bedroom bungalow and is equipped to the highest standards. The Cottage has been designed to capitalise on the location with the day rooms (Living room and Kitchen-Diner) facing the Pentland Firth with views over to the Orkney Islands, Dunnet Head, the island of Stroma and the Pentland Skerries. You can sit for hours watching the ever changing seascape, with wildlife in abundance including Seabirds, Seals and the occasional Orca. The Pentland Firth remains an important shipping lane and for those interested you can watch boats pass through on their way across the Atlantic or towards Europe via the North Sea (see www.shipais.com to check actual ship details en route at sea!)
On clear nights the sunsets are breathtaking and in the summer months it is not unusual for the twilight to continue beyond midnight. As you would expect, the lounge is equipped with a flat screen tv and dvd player if you get bored of the views and want a more conventional sort of entertainment! The kitchen diner has a large dining table and seats six. There is plenty of scope to cook on a grand scale if you wish. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility room. For those with dogs they can be accommodated and kept overnight in the large utility room. The bedrooms are comfortably furnished, with two double rooms (one with ensuite) and a twin bed room all with ample wardrobe space. The view from the main bedroom takes in the Castle of Mey. In addition there is a fully equipped bathroom with power shower. Included in the price of your stay is water, electricity, oil fired central heating, bed linen and towels.
